Je suis de retour avec un article en anglais (et sa version française) sur une nouvelle histoire qui m’a énormément marquée. J'étais obligée de vous en parler!
Il s'agit de Before I Fall ou bien Le Dernier Jour de ma Vie merveilleusement écrit par Lauren Oliver, une célèbre romancière américaine. Ce roman fictionnel porte un message important sur la vie, sur le fait de devenir une meilleure version de soi-même avant de disparaître ?

My reading experience : spoiler-free
What got my attention in this book is the message behind it. Samantha is the popular girl who does whatever she wants and does not think about the consequences. She is a mean girl and really selfish. Most of the time in the book she was portrayed as the bad guy, I honestly didn’t like her at first but at the end she got better. Her behaviour throughout the book changed a lot. What a personal growth! Her way of seeing things changed. It was the BEST part of the book because she realized that she is the master of her own story. It really kept me interested.
Speaking of the book’s form, it was quite repetitive at the beginning but it changed a lot which has a link with Samantha’s personal development. Plus it is easy to read!
"I shudder, thinking how easy it is to be totally wrong about people - to see a tiny part of it and confuse it for the whole"
This novel deals with a lot of important topics. First of all : bullying and rumors spreading. The author managed to show me how bullying can really hurt people, their self-esteem, their mental health and can lead them to suicide and that rumors are not the truth.
“ It’s the weirdest thing. I’m popular_ really popular_but i don't have that many friends. What’s even weirder is that it’s the first time i’ve noticed.”
Teenagers life is not idealized here. We can see the problem of alcohol and its consequences, sexuality, the cruelty of young people towards others and the dark side of popularity shown through Samantha's behaviour.
“So many things become beautiful when you know how to look at them”
Enjoying life is not caring about TOMORROW but about TODAY. The goal is to make us understand that we should live in the moment and not depend on “tomorrow” because we never know. It is something that came several times in the book to make us understand how important life is!
From novel to cinema ?
If you are not a bookish person, then you are lucky because there is an adaptation of this book, released in July 2016 and it is available on Netflix. The actress who played Samantha's character is Zoey Deutch. I recently watched it and I prefer the book because my imagination was better than the movie :)

Quelques mots sur le roman :
Avoir tout ce que tu souhaites, la popularité, des meilleurs amis, un petit ami si charmant et une famille adorable mais pas assez de temps pour en profiter.
Revivre le même jour en boucle, demain n’existe pas ; tu ne peux t’en échapper…
Samantha Kingston, une élève du lycée Thomas-Jefferson, doit faire face à cet enfer qui pourrait être une chance... À toi de découvrir ça avec elle !
Mon avis sur ce roman sans spoiler :
Le message derrière ce roman est assez beau. Le personnage principal, Samantha, me paraissait très désagréable au début. L’auteur nous le présente comme la méchante de l’histoire, elle est égoïste, hautaine et fait ce qui lui chante sans penser aux conséquences de ses actes car elle est "populaire".
Au fil de l’histoire, le personnage évolue. On commence à entrevoir sa façon de voir le monde, et sa manière d’agir change, ce qui m’a encouragée à continuer ma lecture. Le fait de se demander ce qui va arriver, rend l’histoire très intéressante car tout dépend de Sam !
Concernant la forme du livre, c’était assez répétitif au début mais après je vois du changement, qui est en rapport avec le développement personnel du personnage. Le roman est assez facile à lire également.

L’auteur aborde des sujets de société, comme le harcèlement scolaire qui peut avoir des effets négatifs sur la santé mentale.Certaines personnes peuvent avoir des envies de suicide; des rumeurs circulent et détruisent la réputation des gens en un rien du temps.

La vie des adolescents n’est pas idéalisée ici: l’alcool et ses conséquences, la sexualité, la cruauté des adolescents envers leur prochain et la face cachée de la popularité est très présent. Il y a une bonne dose d’originalité.
“Tant de choses deviennent belles quand on sait les regarder”
Le sujet sur l’importance de la vie est le thème principal. Ce roman m’a fait comprendre qu’il faut vivre dans le moment présent avec ses proches, aller vers ce qui nous fait vibrer, même des petites choses, sans compter sur “demain” pour rattraper le temps perdu car on sait jamais ce qui peut nous arriver. Ce thème revient souvent dans le roman et c’est le but.
Du Roman au Cinéma ?
Les personnes qui n’aiment pas trop lire, vous avez de la chance car il y a une adaptation qui est sortie sur ce roman en 2017 et il est disponible sur Netflix !
